Toronto's former chief planner Jennifer Keesmaat to teach at U of T

Jennifer Keesmaat, Toronto鈥檚 former chief planner, will be teaching at the University of Toronto this academic year.

Keesmaat will teach a spring graduate course in the department of geography and planning in the Faculty of Arts & Science, as well as hold regular sessions with planning students.

鈥淚t鈥檚 yet to be determined, but the studio (course) will most likely be something on ... how we can transform the city to become a safer, more livable, pedestrian place,鈥 Keesmaat told the .

She has accepted the , and will be a keynote speaker at an event honouring the late professional planner . 

Keesmaat鈥檚 tenure in Toronto from 2012 to 2017 was marked by her leadership of projects like the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, and her advocacy of density, walkability, complete streets, and active transportation.

She told the newspaper that the visitorship 鈥渨ill complement the other work that I鈥檓 doing very nicely,鈥 adding her other projects have 鈥渘othing to do with running for mayor鈥 鈥 as rumoured.
