Varsity mountain biking coach David Wright receives Joan E. Foley Quality of Student Experience Award
David Wright is the director of development logistics for the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations. But he also wears another hat at the University of Toronto: He founded the U of T mountain bike team and, over the last 18 years, has coached it to provincial championships and medals.
The team stands out as a model for student engagement as Wright encourages his cyclists to excel academically, give back to their communities and lead well-rounded lives. Each year, Wright’s cyclist team organizes a major cleanup of the Don Valley Trails, where they have removed 20,000 kilograms of garbage from the forest.
In recent years, more U of T cyclists have made the dean’s list than members of any other U of T varsity team.
For his work with the mountain biking team, Wright received the Joan E. Foley Quality of Student Experience Award – part of the 2019 Awards of Excellence.
